March 2022 featuring The Broken Tulip
A collaborative dining experience brought to you by the folks at Troddenvale at Oakley Farm and The Broken Tulip.
The ‘hungry gap’ refers to the period of time in late winter or early spring when very few fresh foods are available. Cooks rely on their past efforts of preserving the harvest season’s bounty - canning, salting, curing and fermenting. A truly exciting time for creativity in the kitchen, while embracing the changing seasons and utilizing the fleeting hints of spring.
The event included over 7 courses featuring products and ingredients from many of our local farmers including Fireside at Oakley Farm, Tonoloway Farm, Troddenvale Cider, and Poplar Ridge Farm, with Yonderyear Farm flowers adorning the tablescape. The menu brought the ‘gap season’ to life, with venison hand pies, Alleghany Highland’s trout grilled over 200 year old oak, and last summer’s cheeses. Each course was paired with a cider or wine curated by Troddenvale.
